Protein and muscle: is more always better?
Share
A meta-analysis of 49 studies in healthy adults found that protein supplementation added to resistance training improved strength and fat-free-mass gains.
More was not indefinitely better: the analysis estimated a breakpoint near 1.6 g/kg/day beyond which further fat-free-mass benefit was not apparent on average.
Practical suggestion: review your whole-day protein intake before adding another scoop. Whey can be a convenient way to fill a dietary gap.
