Collagen and skin: reading the evidence fairly
Share
A 2025 meta-analysis covered 23 randomized trials with 1,474 participants. Pooling all trials suggested improvements in several skin measures.
However, higher-quality trials and trials without pharmaceutical-company funding did not show significant benefits. The overall pooled result therefore cannot justify a promise of certain improvement.
Practical suggestion: distinguish a product’s collagen type, amount and ingredients from the strength of evidence for a desired outcome.
How to interpret the result
Evidence is sensitive to quality and funding; this article does not evaluate a specific store product.
